Taking Care of Our Own Backyard
Our roadside and streamside cleanup projects
remove tons of debris from the watershed.
When it rains, the trash that collects along our roadsides washes into our creeks, and from there on to the Russian River and ocean. It can end up in the great Pacific gyre of plastic debris!
Local residents clean up regularly along Green Valley Road, and other roads in the West County have their caretakers. We would like to invite you to join us as we support and increase these efforts.
AGVWC will provide a Grappler Trash Picker, safety vest, and trash bags to anyone who will commit to regularly using them. The Grappler easily picks up large bottles and other objects, as well as micro-trash. No money is requested for these items; we ask only that they be used effectively (and often), especially before a significant rain.
The Sonoma County Roads Department, along with Empire Waste Management, cleans up the larger trash deposits like mattresses, tires, furniture, etc., along our roads weekly. They are doing a good job. You can phone in reports of illegal and thoughtless dump sites at 565-5100.
If you are interested in joining this ongoing project, please contact John at jahiltop@sonic.net or at 321-3273.
